Task 3C Sources of information.

My top five current most important sources of information I would say are as follows.

GOOGLE- This has to be my number one as it is something that I access for anything and everything. It is a search engine I use daily to gain access to various sources of information. It is constantly updated and a great way to work your way through the world wide web.

FRIENDS- I have my friends as my second as I feel they give me a variety of information to help with my professional life, they bring different aspects to the table as they do various jobs, hobbies ect so have different view points to me.

FACEBOOK- I am counting facebook as one of my current sources of information, as recently I have updated and changed my account making it more of a professional one, allowing me access to various pages gaining information to do with my practice.

YOUTUBE- is a source of information that I use but not one that I feel I use enough to my advantage yet, I look at it occasionally, to look up different styles of dance and workshops ect, but I feel I could use it more to my advantage to find out more about my profession and different styles ect.

WIKIPEDIA- Again this source is something I have only started to use recently, as it is an online encyclopedia and has a lot of uses, however with it being accessed and updated by anyone you can not be sure how reliable to information is.

After having looked at my top five sources of information, I have realized just how much I rely on the internet to gain information for my profession! Which I can see is a good thing and that I am using it to my full advantage though afew areas I could use more. However I feel I am neglecting the more older approaches to gaining information on my topics, word of mouth, books, magazines, classes. These are the sources of information that I feel I lack the use of and something that I need to access and use more.

  1. Hi,

So it seems 'Connectivism' is the theme of most of your networks. I was reflecting on youtube receantly, using it as inspiration to styles etc. Is this stealing other peoples ideas and not being creative? I seem to have noticed a an issue with watching something on YouTube and then using/copying it in my practice.

    Any thoughts on this?

  2. Hi Steph, I found this task very enlightening for me too, I didn't realise how much I depended on 'virtual' sources, as well as how they inter-connnect with actual contacts through people. Do you feel now you have furthered delved into the reason 'why' your use these sources you will be able to use them more effectively?

  3. Hi Steph, you appear to use internet sources to your advantage and it is obvious that these help to enhance your professional practise. I also rely on the Web to support my work, especially for research purposes. Perhaps you could extend your face to face networking? This is difficult on a daily basis with work committments but could perhaps allow for sharing ideas? I do feel inspired by certain people in my life, some who certainly enrich my professional practise. Are there people who inspire you and how do you communicate with them?

  4. ahmet- i can see where your coming from witht he whole copyright of facebook, i feel really it is up to the individual i feel the same though if i take something directly off facebook it dosen't feel my own, i prefer to study the different styles and varietys people have out there and take inspiration from that. Have you ever posted your classes/ work on facebook (not just showreels ect) or do you fear someone will take your work and have it as there own? something to concider.

Simone- yes i do feel that now i have established my sources i feel i can pin point the areas where i can use them fully to my advantage. having established that we all depend on the internet so much have you concidered making more use of your non internet based sources at all? to see if you can get more from them?

Gemma- yes i feel a more face to face approach is something that i want to work on improving, as i feel it is a source i have neglected and thinking about it feel slightly closed off from and something that i need to work on to engage more fully in, how do you go about your face to face networking and do you feel it has helped to improve your knowledge and understanding of your proffesion?

    1. Hi Steph,

I have to be careful with filming and posting children on the internet as you can imagine. I do post my work as an actor though. I feel confident in the sharing my work it can grow. I believe you should be confident that people may take your work or ideas, but you will be the best at delivering them - If not, use what they are doing as inspiration and steal it back...
